Gentry has been reading to the kids and we are all enjoying it. He only has one chapter left of Wind in the Willows, so we are looking for suggestions for an uplifting, family friendly story. What do you think we should read next?
Hi Lainey, I don't have any suggestions on books, but I'd like to hear what others have to say. My little one is still in picture books so haven't reached the chapter book stage yet. Thank you for leaving comments on our blog. It's nice "meeting" you through your blog. You have quite an appreciation for art! I do too. I don't claim to be very good, but I do enjoy drawing and painting. I look forward to spending more time at it when my kids are a bit older. All for now, Melinda
Have you ever read The Search for Delicious? My 4th grade teacher read it to my class, and I have loved it ever since. It will be a little young for Miss Victoria, but delightful all the same.
The Twenty-One Balloons by William Pène du Bois, totally. Or Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH ... that's always good. I think Victoria would like the first one better. I still read it every year or two.
Little House on the Prarie is a wonderful series of books if you have not read yet! Gent would love reading them to the kids & you would all love them. The adventure mixed with learning is a great combination. Micah loves them! He just got done reading "No Dogs Allowed" for his book club.
Tom Sawyer is great to read to the kids. Adults enjoy the satire in his writing and kids, depending on their age, enjoy the tales. Such an American classic.

Neither Gentry or I had read "wind in the willows" and that turned out to be a lot of fun! We have read Where the Red Fern Grows and I was bawling and Victoria got mad cause it made her cry too. She likes to make fun of her soggy mom.
Indian in the cupboard was a pretty good one and I also liked encyclopedia brown series. I'm recalling these from childhood so hopefully they fit the bill.

How about "Hank the Cowdog"...or "The Boxcar Children". I definitely agree with whomever suggested "Where the Red Fern Grows".
